The Bible has been given to each and everyone to be our companion. As much as we need to have the Bible as our guide, we also need to know the Bible verses about praying for others stated therein. The Bible contains verses that are applicable to life and individual. The secret to finding lasting solutions is contained in the Bible.

One of the verses we should familiarize ourselves with should be the prayer verses, especially the Bible prayer verses, about praying for others. There are several verses which can be used to either pray for ourselves or other people around us, this could be either your family, friends, colleagues and even the nation.

Prayer is the way by which we communicate with our Creator. The way  in which we get to know Him better. Prayer serves as an avenue for Him to get to know us too. Here we will focus not about ourselves but about others, about people who are important to us.

The Bible reminds that we pray for others even when they hate us. This definitely cannot be done without love. In other words, God is instructing us to love one another even when we are been persecuted. “And when they hate you, it’s your duty to pray for them”. Matthew 5:44, Luke 6:28.

What are Intercessory Prayers?

Intercessory prayers are prayers made on behalf of others.  Intercessory prayers are sacrificial prayers which focus less on you and more on others. The role of the mediator can be in various forms. The mediator could either be praying for a family member, a friend, colleague or the Nation. The mediator could be praying to bring the person to Christ, praying for healing, provision and so many others depending on what God has laid in the person’s heart.

This mediation is made possible because of the death of Jesus Christ. It is through Jis death and resurrection we can approach the throne of Grace with our petition.

Why we need to pray for others?

Praying for one another is a major part of bearing the burdens of one another (Galatians 6:2).  When you pray for others, it strengthens the relationship we have with God. Praying for others also strengthens the bond with people we pray for. There are quite a lot of Bible verses about praying for others such that when these verses are used as a backup with our prayer points, we speedily get answers to the request made.

Whenever intercessory prayer points are raised concerning a situation in the life of an individual, they should either be written down or made reference to as the spirit leads. However, whatever is being prayed about should be strictly focused on.

God appreciates and honors people who fervently pray for other people facing trials and tribulation. Despite the trials our Lord Jesus Christ was faced with while on earth, He still made it mandatory to pray for others. The salvation of others was His main focus and still is. The Bible verses about praying for others is seen in the life of Jesus when He prayed not only for Himself but also for his disciples in John 17:6-26.

  • First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people. (1 Timothy 2:1)
  • And the Lord restored the fortunes of Job, when he had prayed for his friends. And the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before. (Job 42:10)
  • For I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayers and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1:19)
  • Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who loves you. (Psalm 122:6)
  • Prayer for those who have been good to you: The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace. (Numbers 6:24-26)
  • But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. (Matthew 5:44)

Bible verses about praying for others are numerous and can be found in the Bible whenever a person decides to embark on it. When this is done, it’s a way of showing your love and affection towards the person or people you are interceding for. More so, God requires of us to do this often so as to bring more people into His Kingdom as seen in the book of Mark 16:15, “He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”  This Bible verse is directed to you and me in Christ Jesus.
