Do not Deceive Yourselves – Devotional for Today, January 19

Do not Deceive Yourselves Devotional

Today’s January 19 daily devotional contains a Bible passage that touches each of us: Do not deceive yourselves.

Devotional for Today, January 19

But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. (full text at 1 Corinthians 1:26-31)

God’s View is Decisive

What our society has come to regard as the criteria for success are not, in God’s eyes, decisive criteria. Unfortunately, what people may flaunt before one another in God’s world will not be considered a success.

Regarding our relationship with God and our future in eternity, neither physical strength, a nice body, nor political power will have much value. Even the number of followers on social networks will become worthless.

Do you understand this?

Do not Deceive Yourselves

The values that come from God have been and will be the most critical and decisive. And it doesn’t matter that they are not valued in modern society.

It has always been difficult for people to accept that God is free from human criteria. However, about man, God is not bound by man’s trending worldview.

I think that in all these years, humanity has never understood this.

What Paul is saying is: Do not deceive yourselves. (1 Corinthians 3:18)

False Criteria will be Removed

God will tear down everything you are so proud of. But he who is proud of himself shows what he puts his hope in, what he trusts, and believes in.

To say “I am proud of myself” means I am confident in myself and my achievements. But we know from experience how fragile, temporary, and maybe even foolish this is. A dire circumstance, unfortunate event, or unexpected illness can instantly destroy everything you have built for many years.

This is the sin of this world, to trust not in the eternal God, but in the temporal material world

This is the sin of this world, to trust not in the eternal God but in the temporal material world.

Put God First

Therefore, from the words of the Apostle Paul, we conclude that in our scale of values, God must always, always, always be at the top of the list.

Trust Him first. Because He will never end or disappear. God is eternal.

And the values of the world have a short shelf life. They are fragile and lose weight in an instant.

In the eyes of men, the wise cling to the values of this world. The wise, from God’s point of view, cling to God.

Prayer for Today

Lord Jesus, Son of the living God, I ask you to be the source of my life and my firm foundation. Be the rock on which I want to build my life. Jesus, be my main motive and argument when I need to make decisions in life. You are the way, the truth, and the life. Amen.
