The wise and foolish virgins. Today, the 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time, in the parable of the ten virgins, Jesus vividly illustrates the significance of being spiritually prepared and vigilant. Why “foolish girls”? It symbolizes people who expect everything to work itself out in their lives. They imagine it is enough to be passive observers in their own lives. But God’s Word warns us that one day, we will face the painful reality into which people have plunged themselves by their passivity (or perhaps stupidity).
