Amid a daily life of tasks and responsibilities, there is a desire to look for something more to give meaning to our lives. This can even take strange forms. For example, we seek fulfillment in various forms—in relationships, in achievements, in pleasures. Such searches bring only emptiness. In such situations, when the soul is dry, Christ’s words ring out to satiate our deepest longings—the Bread of Life for our souls.
Daily Devotional for October 31
“Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.'” (John 6:35)
Nourished by the Bread of Life
Jesus does not just call himself the Bread of Life. He is God who invites us to receive Him as food for life.
Temporary food, satisfying our earthly desires, is not even remotely comparable. The Bread of Life fills our hearts with love, grace, and a lasting sense of purpose that begins in this life and continues for eternity.
Our souls are on a constant journey, often reminiscent of the Israelites’ wanderings in the wilderness in the Bible. The heavenly manna that nourished them is the forerunner and sign of Jesus Christ. He is the true manna that feeds our souls and strengthens us for the journey ahead.
In this bread, we find the strength to overcome challenges, the hope that replaces despair, and the grace that shapes us to become more like Him.
