Having a close relationship with God—Prayer for September 19. Praise the Lord, everybody!
Sometimes, when you are in Christ, you find yourself in perilous positions. You look to your Brothers and Sisters in Christ for encouragement and are disappointed. It is then that you realize what David did and encourage yourself.
Bible Verse for Today
And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God. (1 Samuel 30:6)
David at this time probably had never felt more alone in this world but he was able to be encouraged not by what someone else had said to him but because he himself had personal knowledge of who God was and what God had done for him in the past.
We all need to be the same way. When we feel distressed and alone and seem surrounded by enemies, we should be able to encourage ourselves because of our personal relationship with God.
Remember that having a close relationship with God is very important
If you do not have a personal relationship with God, then you better ask yourself, “Am I really saved?” “How do I get a personal relationship with God?” you ask.
Well, that’s simple: just start talking to Him, reading and meditating on His word, and spending quality time with Him in prayer.
God does not want “lip service” from us. Talk is cheap in the Kingdom of God.
God desires to walk with us in the fantastic evening as He did with Adam in the garden. The Bible tells us in Genesis that Enoch walked with God and was blessed not to experience death.
To encourage yourself in the Lord as David did, you must have positive experiences in the Lord to recall as testimonies to His delivering power.
So next time you feel you have nowhere and no one to turn to who cares, you can look back and encourage yourself in the Lord. Remember that having a close relationship with God is very important. God bless you all.
Having a Close Relationship with God – Prayer for Today
Father God, we thank you that we can always turn to you to lift us up when we are surrounded by trouble on all sides. Lord, help us spend more quality time walking with you. God, give us the hunger and thirst for your word and your righteousness that we need. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
