The Bible says we need to control our tongues to enjoy life, and I believe we all want to enjoy life. Today, in our Daily Devotional for June 28, let’s explore the importance of controlling our tongue and how it impacts our lives.
Daily Devotional for June 28
“Those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin.” – Proverbs 13:3 (NIV)
Controlling Your Tongue
Our words have power. They can build up or tear down, encourage or discourage, bring peace, or cause conflict. The Bible repeatedly emphasizes the importance of controlling our tongues. By being mindful of what we say, we can enjoy a more fulfilling and harmonious life.
The Power of Words
Reading and meditating on what God’s Word says about the power of words is essential. Here are some key verses to consider:
“Those who control their tongue will have a long life; opening your mouth can ruin everything.” – Proverbs 13:3 (NLT)
“May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.” (Psalm 19:14)
“If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.” – James 1:26
Meditating on Scripture
Meditating on these and other scriptures helps us internalize the importance of speaking wisely. Here are additional verses to look up and meditate on as you seek to live a powerful life:
- Proverbs 8:8
- Proverbs 11:9
- Proverbs 12:18
- Proverbs 15:4
- Proverbs 18:21
God’s Word has the power to strengthen and enable us to speak words of life that will benefit us and those around us.
Living with Intention
Controlling our tongues requires intentionality. It means pausing before we speak, considering the impact of our words, and choosing to speak life and truth. By doing so, we align our speech with God’s will and reflect His love and wisdom to others.
