Deal with Temptation – Prayer for November 28. Temptation can be described as a person’s choice between being faithful or unfaithful to God. It is also when a person is solicited to do evil things.
Bible Verse for Today
“Devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8)
In other words, Satan is constantly looking for someone to tempt and lure away from Jesus Christ. Therefore, as believers of Christ, we must be alert and sober-minded (1 Peter 5:8).
We are all tempted by sin because we are born in a fallen and sinful world. Equally, it is part of our human makeup. Temptation should not necessarily be seen as a sin, but yielding to temptation causes evil. “Therefore, we must not offer ourselves to sin, but rather we must offer ourselves to God. We must offer every part of us to Him as an instrument of righteousness” (Romans 6:13).

Jesus teaches us how to deal with temptation. During Jesus’ fasting of 40 days and 40 nights, Satan tempted Him to sin. Satan tempted Jesus with the “lust of eyes,” “lust of the body,” and “pride of life.” Jesus was tempted to:
- Turn stones into bread to satisfy His hunger (Mathew 4:2).
- Throw Himself down from the temple’s highest point, and the angels will rescue Him (Matthew 4:6).
- Bow down and worship Satan in exchange for the world’s kingdoms (Matthew 4:8).
At every point of temptation, Jesus responded with the Word – It is written…
Equally, when we are tempted, Satan uses these categories of temptation (lust of eyes, lust of body, pride of life) described by John the Evangelist in his epistle. We can utilize the identical approach Jesus used when Satan tempts us, and we can counteract every temptation by applying the Word of God.
Sometimes we fall into temptation because our flesh is weak, but God is on our side, and He will not let us fall into the devil’s snares. Therefore, we should declare the prayer that Jesus taught his disciples; “and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one” (Matthew 6:13).
Deal with Temptation Prayer for Today
Dear Father, we are often tempted by sin, and we pray that you will help us to apply Your approach when Satan tempts us. I am determined to stay committed to you. I shall not bow to the snares of Satan; I ask that you keep me on guard to His devices and that I remain alert and sober-minded. Amen.
