In today’s devotional, we will look at a passage in Luke’s Gospel in which Jesus presents a profound interaction between revelation, humility and divine wisdom. It is a good opportunity to reflect on how God chooses to reveal his truths and how to embrace God’s wisdom.
Daily Devotional for December 5
“At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, ‘I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.'” (Luke 10:21-24)
Embrace God’s Wisdom
In this passage, Jesus expresses joy over the Father’s way of revealing the mysteries of the Kingdom – not to the self-assured and wise of the world, but to those with the humility and openness of children.
The Joy of Divine Revelation
Jesus rejoices in the Holy Spirit at God’s way of revealing Himself. It’s a reminder that understanding God’s Kingdom is a gift of grace, not a product of human wisdom.
Humility as the Key to Wisdom
The revelation of God’s truths to the ‘little children’ signifies the importance of humility. Approaching God with childlike openness and humility is essential to understanding His ways.
The Privilege of Knowing Christ
Jesus speaks of the blessedness of those who see and hear what many prophets and kings desired to see. As followers of Christ, we have the privilege of knowing and understanding truths that are hidden from many.

Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, I come before You with a heart grateful for the revelation of Your truths. Thank You for the privilege of knowing You and understanding Your ways. Fill me with a spirit of humility, that I may receive Your wisdom like a child. Help me to let go of self-reliance and pride in my own understanding, and instead, trust wholly in Your revelation. Let the joy of Your truth permeate my life. Remind me daily of the blessing I have in knowing Christ and the mysteries of Your Kingdom. Guide me in walking with childlike faith and wonder, marveling at the beauty of Your revelation and the depth of Your love. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
