Advent. Gift from God – New Covenant. Prayer for December 3. What God did in the time of Abraham, the punishment and the covenants he made with his people stopped when Jesus came to establish a New Covenant with the people.
Bible Verse for Today
“For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second. Because finding fault with them, He says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.” (Hebrews 8:7-8)
One of the reasons why God had to stop the old Covenant and make a new one with them is because there was a fault in the old one. Could this fault come from God himself?
It wasn’t from God. God made this Covenant with them so that he can get them to where he has promised. But they did not follow the Covenant. They went away from God every time and there came the need to make a new and a strong one.
Hebrews 8:9 says, “not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in my covenant, and I disregarded them, says the Lord.”
If God gives us something and we refuse to follow it, we make it faulty and God will disregard it. God has the power to fulfill His promises for us but most of the time we look elsewhere and never stand in the promises of God.
Devotional for every day: Daily Devotional
The only thing God can do for us is to have mercy on us and then establish a new Covenant. This New Covenant is a gift from God to mankind. It is time for us to follow the new Covenant and obey the commands of God.
If God is going to fulfill his promises, we must play our part by following him diligently. Jesus is the reason for the new Covenant when we follow him, we follow the new Covenant and the promises that are attached to the covenant will be ours.
Gift from God – Prayer for Today
Dear Lord, thank you for establishing a new covenant with us and showing us the way through Christ Jesus. I pray that your promises be fulfilled in my life today and teach me to follow your commands diligently. Let your Covenant have an impact on my life. Amen.
