God sees our hearts – Prayer for Lent #day 5. Something we have forgotten is that God looks at the heart first before considering the outward appearance. God sees our hearts and knows the reason why we do some things. We need to change our mindset towards something if we know they are not good.
Bible Verse for Today
“But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7)
Just like it was written in James 4:3 about the reason why prayers are not being answered. It is because of the mindset of the one that is praying. If you need something and you pray for it just because you want to use it to oppress other people, then God will not answer that kind of prayer because of the mindset that you have towards it.
In the same way, some people partake in the lent but they could not gain anything because of their mindset towards it. It will be a total waste of time if you don’t change your mindset and focus on the real thing that this Lent is all about. Some people partake in Lent because they want to be seen as a partaker and not because they want God to use them or to prepare for the Lord.
There is no reason for us to be doing show off. It is God that will reward every man according to their works. Why should a man now want to please another man and not have it in mind to please God instead? The good news is that it is never too late to change our mindset. How do we change our mindset? The Bible gave an option of what to do in Colossians 3:2 “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”
We must stop being selfish or stop looking at the things of the world. We must also stop trying hard to please humans for no reason. At this point, I am not saying you should not do a good job so that people would be pleased but there are somethings like fasting that you don’t have to please the people or make sure they see you that you are fasting.
The most important thing is for God to see you doing in with all your heart. Colossians 3:23 says, “And whatsoever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not to men.”
God Sees Our Hearts Prayer of the day
Father, I desire to please you alone. I don’t want to do things so that people can praise me. In this time of Lent, if I am doing anything with the wrong motive or the wrong mindset, I want you to help me and make me do the right thing, Lord. Teach me to set my mind on you alone and not on worldly things. Amen.
