Daily Devotional for December 4

“When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, ‘Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.'” (Matthew 8:5-11)

Learn from the Centurion

The centurion’s unwavering belief in Jesus’ power to heal without even being physically present challenges us to examine the strength and nature of our faith.

Unwavering Trust in Jesus

The centurion did not doubt Jesus’ ability to heal. His faith was not contingent on physical evidence or Jesus’ physical presence; it was anchored in a deep belief in Jesus’ authority and power.

Understanding Jesus’ Ways

Often, our expectations of how Jesus should respond to our prayers can limit our understanding of His work in our lives. The centurion’s faith was free of these constraints, open to Jesus’ will and way.

Keeping an Open Heart and Mind

Our role is to bring our prayers to Jesus with an open heart and mind, trusting that He will respond, albeit not always in the ways we expect. This open-hearted faith acknowledges that Jesus’ ways and thoughts are higher than ours.

Prayer for Today

Lord Jesus, today I seek to deepen my faith in You, inspired by the centurion’s example. Help me to trust in Your power and goodness without reservation. Forgive me for the times I’ve tried to limit You with my expectations. Teach me to approach You with an open heart and mind, ready to accept Your will, however, it may manifest in my life. I believe You are working in my life, even in ways I may not immediately understand. Increase my faith, Lord, and help me to trust that You will not disappoint. As I go about my day, let me be mindful of Your presence and open to the surprising ways You might choose to work in and through me. In Your powerful and loving name, I pray. Amen.

To You

Reflect on a situation where you need to trust Jesus more fully. Ask Him to help you let go of preconceived notions and embrace His will with an open and trusting heart.

My brother, may you walk in the confidence of the centurion’s faith today, trusting that Jesus is with you and working in your life. Let your heart be open to His unexpected ways, and may His presence bring you peace and assurance. Amen.
