Lenten Devotional – Day 22: Let Go of Control and Trust God

Lenten Devotional - Day 22: Let Go of Control and Trust God

Control can feel comforting—it gives us a sense of security and predictability. However, clinging tightly to control often reveals a lack of trust in God’s sovereignty and wisdom. Let go of control and fully trust God, essential for spiritual freedom and peace.

Lenten Devotional – Day 22

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Let Go of Control and Trust God

Our attempts to control everything around us lead to anxiety, frustration, and disappointment because we’re trying to bear burdens that only God can handle. God invites us into a trusting relationship where we acknowledge His wisdom and provision.

We are often prone to self-deception, accepting illusion as reality, which becomes our stumbling block. If you genuinely desire to grow, improve, and break free from the challenging circumstances of your everyday life, you must learn to accept your human limitations.

As the Bible wisely reminds us, our “spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Matthew 26:41). We may decide on many wonderful things, but not everything lies within our control.

This recognition underscores the importance of calling upon God’s grace for help and understanding clearly that you cannot control everything.

Recognizing the Need for Control

Reflect honestly today: Are there areas in your life where you consistently try to maintain strict control? Perhaps it’s your career, finances, relationships, or health. Ask yourself: Does this need for control create anxiety, stress, or distance in your relationship with God?

Acknowledging your tendency toward control is the first step toward deeper trust. Recognizing your limits and God’s limitless strength allows you to release your grip and lean wholly into His care.

Trust God

Start today by clearly identifying areas where you struggle to surrender control. Bring these to God in prayer, asking Him to help you genuinely trust His timing, provision, and wisdom.

Practise daily devotion to God. When faced with anxiety or uncertainty, stop for a minute and pray. Reflect regularly on scriptures about trust and God’s faithfulness.

My brother, accepting the reality that not everything is up to you is the beginning of freedom from anxiety and allows you to experience the peace and joy that comes from trusting God.

Daily Actions and Tips:

  • Identify specific areas of your life where you struggle to let go of control and write them down.
  • Pray daily, intentionally releasing these areas to God, asking for His guidance and peace.
  • Choose and meditate on scripture passages that remind you of God’s faithfulness.
  • Regularly affirm your trust in God, especially in moments of uncertainty or stress.

Prayer for Today

Lord, today, I acknowledge my struggle with letting go of control. Forgive me for trying to manage everything on my own instead of trusting You. I surrender my anxieties, fears, and uncertainties into Your loving hands. Help me fully trust in Your wisdom, timing, and provision. Replace my anxiety with Your peace, my doubts with confidence in Your faithfulness, and my control with reliance on Your guidance. Lead me daily into deeper trust and intimacy with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
