Let go of regrets. Regret is a powerful emotion that can keep you anchored to the past, preventing you from experiencing true peace and spiritual growth. The mistakes you made, the opportunities you missed, and the wrong paths you took all contribute to the weight of regret. But if you continue looking back, you cannot move forward.
Lenten Devotional – Day 34
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:18-19)
Let Go of Regrets
Regret on its own is not always bad. Sometimes, it can catalyze change, motivating you to make better choices moving forward. However, when regret becomes an all-consuming focus, it turns into a spiritual and emotional trap.
Living life constantly looking in the rearview mirror keeps you from enjoying the present and embracing the future God has for you. True growth involves acknowledging your regrets, learning from them, and then releasing them to God.
Regret in Your Life
Reflect honestly today: Are there regrets that you continuously revisit? Perhaps it’s the one who got away, the opportunity you missed, or the words you wish you hadn’t said.
These regrets may be big or small, recent or longstanding. But if they continue to hold you back, it’s time to release them.
Understand that regret becomes harmful when it transforms into a belief that you will never make the right decision or that you are permanently flawed. This mindset paralyzes your ability to move forward.
Practical Steps
- Acknowledge Your Regrets. Admit the mistakes, failures, or missed opportunities that still haunt you. Confess them to God, recognizing them as part of your past but not your identity.
- Learn from Them. Reflect on what your regrets have taught you. What would you do differently now? Turn your regrets into valuable life lessons.
- Embrace the Present. Make a conscious effort to live in the moment. Focus on the blessings and opportunities God provides today rather than what you’ve left behind.
- Release Them to God. Entrust your regrets to God’s care. Pray for the strength to leave them in His hands and to walk forward in faith.
My brother, letting go of regret frees you to experience the beauty and purpose of today. God is not confined by your past but working in your present and future.
