Power of spoken words – Prayer for December 29. Words have tremendous power. We can do huge things, not only positively, through words. Our words have the power to destroy and the power to build up. Usually, negative statements begin with negative thoughts, so we need to control them.
Bible Verse for Today
“And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell.” (James 3: 6)
Bible describes the tongue as a fire that can burn whatever we touch with our words. When we say the wrong things, it can be like a fire. We should keep this in mind before we use our words against another person. Jesus reminds us that the words we speak are the overflow of our hearts (Matthew 12:34–35).

When our thoughts are negative, they make our words harmful as well. We can stop to talk that way by starting to think in another way. Allow us to begin to control what’s going out of our mouths. We can prevent the fire by saying the right thing. But we can only say the right thing if we think the right thing.
Make room for the Holy Spirit in your life. Allow the Holy Spirit to influence your thoughts and let Him lead you to a life of positive words.
Power of Spoken Words Prayer for Today
God, come into my thoughts and renew them so that you may also like my words. Lord, please help me to check my heart before saying words. Teach me to be full of your Spirit and loving words. God, enable us to use our words as an instrument of your love and saving grace. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
