Advent. Put on the belt of truth – Prayer for December 18. The belt is an important part of the amour worn to the war. It holds down the robes firmly to the chest. Let’s put on the belt of truth and stand firm in Christ.
Bible Verse for Today
“Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place.” (Ephesians 6:14)
In the time past, most people put on robes. It is the most common type of dressing that is seen in people. In the case of soldiers, they put on the belt to hold the robe firmly, and sometimes it can be used to hold the breastplate.
Standing by the truth as a Christian is what makes us righteous. When we get hold of the truth and stand by it, it holds us and stops us from going away from the righteousness of God, the breastplate we have worn. John 17:17 says, “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is the truth.” It is the word of God that keeps you righteous.
When you study the word of God regularly and you get addicted to it, you become sanctified. It is in this state of sanctification that sin becomes distasteful to you. That is when you will love righteousness and hate iniquity.
The belt of truth guards us against false doctrines that can make us miss our ways. These days, false doctrines are encroaching into the church and people are being misled every day.
The belt of truth helps us to stay in form and discern the truth. Ephesians 4:14 “Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.”
Put on the Belt of Truth Prayer for Today
Lord, I thank you all for what you have done in my life, I thank you for today. Today Lord, I put on the belt of truth and I fight against false doctrines. Help me to discern the truth and stand by the truth alone. Let your word teach me all things. Help me to stand in the right path today. Amen.
