Show love through actions, not words – Prayer for December 23. God patiently reminds us to do something we don’t like to do for others. But we serve Him by doing something good for our spouse and other family members. So often, we say words and do nothing for the people we love. Our love remains only in words.
Bible Verse for Today
“Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence.” (1 John 3:18-19)
Let’s consider how many marriages would be saved from divorce if the spouses were willing to serve one another lovingly. Of course, everyone seems to want to be “free” these days, and Jesus made us free. But it was never his intention that we should selfishly use this freedom. Instead, he wants us to serve our spouse and other family members in love.
Devotional for every day here: Daily Devotional
Love means many things to many people and can be expressed in many ways. For example, we love our spouses, and only sometimes is this love best expressed by doing something good for them. Words are wonderful, but your devotion will also be shown through loving deeds if you live that love.
Let us express our love through action. Ask God to give you ideas for serving your spouse today and doing something good for them.
Show Love through Actions
God, I do not want to be selfish in my marriage. Help me serve my spouse and other family members the way you want, and not just show my love in words. Lord, teach me to show love through actions, not words. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
