Spend time with God every day – Prayer for September 24. Praise the Lord, everybody!
When fasting on a regular schedule, how often have we found ourselves not eating but rushing through the day, watching the clock, urging our minds to move faster? Are we consecrating in communion with the Lord? Or are we just killing time?
Bible Verse for Today
You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:
“These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.” (Matthew 15:7-8)
It’s wonderful to be in God’s presence, spending quality time communing with Him in fasting, worship, and prayer just because you love Him.
But at times, I find myself reluctantly calling myself into a consecration only because I need God to do something for me, and I know this gets His attention. What good is it to get God’s attention and then get rebuked by Him?
It is wonderful to be in the presence of God
Just as God is a jealous God, our flesh is jealous also, but not in a loving way. Our flesh demands all our attention and needs to be fed all the time, and it doesn’t seem to want anything good, anything that would be edifying to the body.
Therefore, we must deny our flesh (ourselves) so that the spirit of God within us can thrive.
But talking about it does not equal doing it. Just because we scheduled a consecration does not mean we achieved it.
Clock-watching and rushing through prayer and scripture does not equal quality time with the Lord. God is saying it’s time to wake up, smell the coffee, or at least drink some coffee, “WAKE UP! This is the time of the great awakening.”
There is no flesh in true worship; you can’t bring your flesh when you want to spend quality time before the Lord. God is telling us today that if we think it’s alright to just go through the motions on our fast days, then we shouldn’t even bother to fast at all.
God Bless You All.
Spend Time with God Everyday Prayer for Today
Father God, thank you for your “wake-up call” concerning our fasting and consecration time before you. Lord, please help us not give you lip service but to spend quality time with you in spirit and truth. Keep us from being “clock watchers” when it comes to you. We promise to spend time with God every day. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
