Daily Devotional for September 6

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” – 2 Corinthians 5:17

Your Identity in Christ

When it comes to identity, people usually identify themselves with their job and say, “I am a doctor; I am an entrepreneur.”

Some people even identify themselves with their problems and say, “I’m an alcoholic; I’m an addict.”

The question naturally arises: is that all a person can say about himself? After all, a person is much more than that.

As Christians, we are called to understand and embrace who we are in Christ. This means recognizing that our identity is no longer shaped by the mistakes, failures, or even successes of our past.

The old life is gone, and the new life has begun. And it is very important to seize this chance to start a new life as a child of God.

You Are Loved, Chosen, and Forgiven

The Bible repeatedly tells us that we are loved by God.

In Christ, you are not only loved but chosen. God, in His great love, sent His Son to die for you, to redeem you, and to make you part of His family. This love is not conditional or based on what you do but reflects God’s nature and grace.

Being chosen means that your life has a purpose. You are not an accident or an afterthought. God intentionally designed, loved, and pursued you.

In addition, because of what Jesus did on the cross, you are forgiven. Your past does not define you; Christ’s sacrifice has given you a clean slate.

A New Creation

In 2 Corinthians 5:17, we are reminded that we become a new creation when we come to Christ. Our old identity, wrapped up in sin and shame, is gone. We are made new.

This means that we are no longer bound by the labels the world gives us—whether we have been seen as failures, addicts, victims, or any other negative identity. In Christ, we are set free to live as the children of God.

Redeemed and Adopted

Not only are we forgiven, but we are also redeemed and adopted into God’s family.

Christ’s sacrifice has paid the price to free us from the control of sin. We are no longer defined by our old nature but by our new identity in Christ. We are adopted as sons and daughters of God, with all the rights and privileges that come with that status.

Just as an earthly adoption makes someone a permanent family member, our adoption into God’s family is eternal.

We are His, and He will never let us go.

Living Out Your Identity

Understanding your identity in Christ means living in the freedom and joy that comes with knowing who you are.

You are loved, chosen, forgiven, redeemed, and adopted. This identity brings purpose and meaning to every aspect of life.

In your daily walk, remind yourself of who God says you are. When challenges come, and doubts arise, stand firm in the truth of your new identity in Christ.

Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father, thank You for making me a new creation in Christ. Help me to live in the truth of my identity as Your child, loved and chosen by You. Strengthen me to walk in the freedom that comes from being forgiven and redeemed. May my life reflect the love and grace You have given me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

To You

Reflect on your identity in Christ today. Are there labels from your past that you still hold on to? How can you fully embrace the truth of who God says you are?

As you go through today, remember you are a new creation in Christ. Walk in the freedom and confidence of being a child of God.
