A promise of hope. Whoever has Jesus in their life will be saved. Whoever earnestly calls on the name of the Lord Jesus will have eternal life. This is the promise of our Lord.
Devotional for May 5
I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. (full text at John 6:44-51)
A promise of Hope
In today’s daily devotional gospel passage, Jesus says that he is the bread that came down from heaven. He is the bread of life. Whoever eats of this bread, whoever welcomes Jesus into his life, whoever allows faith to become flesh and blood, will have the right to enter the Kingdom of God.

By this Jesus means that Life is when our earthly journey ends in the Kingdom of God. Whereas not life, but eternal Death, is when man’s earthly journey ends in Hell.
God lifts us up
It is said that love either finds a person equal to it or makes them so. God’s love has not found its equal. Therefore, in order to create a likeness between Himself and us, God humbled Himself to our level.
He became like us in everything. But he did not just want to be like us in our misery. He also wanted to lift us out of our misery and make us like himself. He not only wanted to humble Himself to us but to raise us to His level. He wanted to lift us out of our misery and give us a little bit of God’s happiness.
To achieve this result, God left us a sign that we can feel in our flesh – he made his body into bread. You have heard what He said: I am the Living Bread come down from Heaven.
Prayer for Today
Jesus, You are the way that leads to the Heavenly Father. Lord, have mercy.
You will raise to eternal life all who call upon You. Christ, have mercy.
You fill with your joy those who open themselves to your grace. Lord, have mercy.
