Do you want to live? So eat your daily bread, and be strengthened by food! Do you also want to live forever? Then eat the bread of life, Jesus Christ – believe in Him and be strengthened by His means of grace!
Daily devotional for May 6
Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. (full text at John 6:52-59)
Do you also want to live forever?
This is not about biological survival or life extension. Rather, it is about eternal life, true life. It is life in communion with the heavenly Father!
- Devotional for every day here: Daily Devotional
It is only in communion with the Creator that we discover the meaning of our life and experience the fullness of life as the Creator intended for us. Only in communion with the Creator does our life lose its temporary limitation; then death can no longer destroy it.
So do you want to live with God, to live forever? This is only possible if you have the right food for it! This is the bread from Heaven; this is the divine food and drink of which Jesus spoke.
Heavenly Father is the source
The Heavenly Father is the source of all life; without Him or apart from Him, there can be no life. The only begotten Son is of one substance with the Father and is descended from the Father, and therefore He also carries the fullness of life within Him.
Whoever is united to the Son participates in this true life, the life of the Son and therefore of the Father.
Whoever is united to the Son means: whoever lives in Jesus. Or vice versa: the one in whom Jesus himself lives. But this happens in such a way that he takes Jesus into himself, in a sense “eats” and “drinks”.
Eat the bread of life and live forever
Let’s hear Jesus’ words again: “He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him”.
Only he who eats the flesh and drinks the blood of Jesus has true life, eternal life. Only he will be raised to a blessed life on the last day. Jesus said: “He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”
Prayer for Today
Loving Heavenly Father, I come to You in prayer. I know that I am a weak and sinful person. I deserve condemnation for my sins, but I know that You are merciful. With all my heart, I turn today with compassion and ask for forgiveness of sins. I ask for the Bread of Life so that I may rejoice with You forever in Your Kingdom, where You live and reign forever. Amen.
