Advent. Breastplate of righteousness – Prayer for December 17. Part of the amour of God that we need at a time like this is the breastplate of righteousness. Let’s tell God to put on us the breastplate of righteousness.
Bible Verse for Today
“Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place.” (Ephesians 6:14)
A breastplate is an amour that is worn to protect the chest area during the war. It protects the part of the body from arrows and sword that might have been fired at you. The chest is the part where your heart is found and when there is a piercing through the chest, it affects your heart and you bleed.
Before we act on anything, it must have been processed in our hearts. Luke 6:45 “A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”
Whatever we are starts from our hearts. This is the reason we must guard our hearts against sinful thought – one way to do this is by putting on the breastplate of righteousness. God gave us this amour so that we can guide ourselves from things that take us away from Christ.
There is still hope for anyone without this amour if an arrow has been fired into your heart. God can heal you by creating in you a clean heart. One must pray for this. Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”
When God finally heals you and creates in you a clean heart and revives your spirit, the next thing is to guard your heart with the breastplate of righteousness and stand strong against any arrow of sin or lust that the enemy might want to fire into your heart to corrupt you.
Breastplate of Righteousness Prayer for Today
Dear Lord, thank you for my life, thank you for my heart. I pray that you create in me a clean heart and purify me so that my life will praise your name. I pray that you put on me the breastplate of righteousness and give me the power to stand against any arrow fired at me. Strengthen me today Lord and let me be free by your power. Amen.
