Confess your sins to the Lord – Prayer for August 30. Praise the Lord all the saints of God, for He alone is worthy! If you’ve ever had trouble sleeping, you know there is a difference between lying down and getting rest. You can lay down and not get rest. But if you lay down in Christ, you will know true rest.
Bible Verse for Today
“There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.” (Hebrews 4:9-10)
Many feel Paul wrote Hebrews. Here, Paul is trying to tell us that Jesus offers us rest from our burden of sin. He offers us rest in our flesh and rest for our eternal souls.
When Jesus had finished His work hanging on the cross for our sins, He said, “It is finished,” and arose to His “rest” at the right hand of God the Father. So when we finish our work here on earth for the Lord, we will ourselves say it is finished and enter into our eternal rest with Him.
When God ordained a day of rest after our labors back in Exodus, it was just a precursor to the rest that would come in the form of Jesus Christ our Lord.
What about that natural rest? You might be wondering, where does that come in? Jesus said in Matthew 11:28, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Living in sin and all the things that come with it take a toll on you physically and spiritually. David talks about this often in Psalms, where he mentions things like, “There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin. Mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me.” (Psalm 38:3-4).

Jesus offers us rest from our guilt and shame right now. We no longer have to hold on to the quilt and shame of past or present shame. If you confess your sins to the Lord, He is faithful and will forgive us, Hallelujah! Then we can rest, knowing we are forgiven and cleansed of all iniquity.
The Devil is the accuser of the brethren and would like you to be always reminded of your past sins. The Devil wants you to believe you can never be fully forgiven, but Jesus says, “I will give you rest.” God bless you all.
Confess your Sins to the Lord – Prayer for Today
Father, we thank you that in Jesus, we have rest—not only spiritual but also physical. Lord, help us to take advantage of that rest each day. Help us to forgive ourselves even as you forgive us. And help us not listen to the enemy as he whispers in our ears. We pray all these things in Jesus’ name, Amen.
