Daily Devotional for December 8
“As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, ‘Have mercy on us, Son of David!’… Jesus asked them, ‘Do you believe that I am able to do this?’ ‘Yes, Lord,’ they replied. Then he touched their eyes and said, ‘According to your faith let it be done to you,’ and their sight was restored.” (full text at Matthew 9:27-31)
Belief and Blessing: Understanding Faith’s Role
This story is a vivid reminder that our faith plays a crucial role in how we experience and acknowledge God’s work in our lives.
Pursuing Jesus with Faith
The blind men actively sought out Jesus, demonstrating their belief in His power to heal. Their pursuit is a challenge for us to seek Jesus actively in our needs.
The Question of Belief
Jesus’ question to the blind men, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” is significant. It underscores the importance of seeking Jesus and believing in His ability to meet our needs.
The Proportion of Faith
Jesus said, “According to your faith let it be done to you.” This implies that our experience of God’s power can be linked to the depth and extent of our faith.

Prayer for Today
Lord Jesus, as I reflect on the story of the two blind men, I am inspired by their faith and their earnest pursuit of You for healing. Help me to embody the same level of trust and persistence in my life. In areas where I am spiritually blind or in need of Your touch, increase my faith. Let me believe wholeheartedly in Your power and willingness to work in my life. When doubts and fears cloud my vision, remind me of Your faithfulness and Your mighty power. May I always turn to You with confidence and expectation. Thank You for the reminder that my faith, however small, matters to You. Help me grow in faith daily, trusting in Your goodness and care. In Your holy name, I pray, Amen.
