GUARDING YOUR EYES Prayer for November 6

guarding your eyes

Guarding your eyes – Prayer for November 6. Praise the Lord, everybody!

Some say that the eyes are the gateways to our souls. Therefore, we must guard what enters our eye gate because we must guard against the corruption of our hearts and souls.

Bible Verse for Today

I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid? (Job 31:1)

Job had the right idea: We must agree with our eyes. We need our eyes to get around and carry out our daily activities. At the same time, we must guard against the temptations that come into view daily.

Getting caught up in the lust of the eyes is what the media and the world count on; they call it the “cliffhanger” or “the hook.” Their goal is to get the world hooked on their “product.” The world says “sex sells,” whether homo sex, hetero sex, metro sex, or extramarital sex.

The world also loves the anti-hero, the reprobate, like Walter White from Breaking Bad and Tony Soprano from The Sopranos, both “likable” criminal killers. There’s Olivia Pope from Scandal, Cookie and Luscious Lyons from Empire, and Annalise Keating from With How to Get away Murder. All dysfunctional people have no problem lying, robbing, or killing to get their way, just to name a few.

The world wants us to idolize these people. We can’t wait to watch these shows and characters and talk about them week after week.

Devotional for every day: Daily Devotional

At first glance, it may seem like everything is normal, only a film or show. But to tell the truth, this is how evil gains place and becomes part of our daily lives.

We don’t notice when we start to tolerate evil. It’s time we open our spiritual eyes and see what the enemy is trying to do. How do we protect our eye gate? Where do we turn for entertainment?

Jesus is asking us right now to look back to when we first believed. He’s asking us to go back to that place when He was the “apple” of our eyes and we were the “apple” of His. It is now time to make a new covenant with our eyes, not to watch the unclean things or shows with no redeeming value.

Guarding your eyes against temptation is essential, but in this multimedia age, it’s not easy to consecrate your eyes with God’s help how can we fail?

God Bless You All.

Guarding Your Eyes – Prayer for Today

Father God, forgive us for allowing inappropriate things to compromise our eye gates. Lord, help us to make a new covenant with our eyes and to purge ourselves of images that can lead us into sin. God, teach us to guard our eyes against temptation. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
