Matt Redmann is an English songwriter with a heart full of worship. His lyrics are so heavenly and make you feel close to God. He is a great worship leader with many religious track hits to his name. Born in Watford, England on February 14th, 1976, he sings the contemporary Christian songs, praise and worship, and Gospel songs with gladness of heart.
This song was born during the period of emotional emptiness experienced in Matt’s church. This song dates back to the late 1990’s. Despite the impact of this song to revivals held in his church, his congregation struggled to find the real meaning in this musical composition at that time.
The pastor of his church felt deep within his heart that there was a vacuum in the way worship was rendered in church. Then one day, he concluded in his heart to disband the band members, got rid of all sound systems for a season and then, gathered the congregation together with just their voices. He figured out that they were disconnected in their mode of worship and the only way to get back to the heart was to strip themselves away from everything that could bring disconnection.
Matt Redman’s home church Pastor, Mike Pilavachi reminded his church members to be producers of songs and not just consuming songs other songwriters have composed. The pastor then asked the members a question which Matt found as an embarrassing one. He asked, what do you bring as offering to God every time you walk through the church doors on a Sunday?”
Then, there was a deafening silence in the congregation but eventually, all people began to compose songs straight from their heart. They sang different songs from their heart, from acapella songs to heartfelt prayers, having a different dimension to encountering God in a fresh and dynamic way.
Not too long, the band members, choristers and sound system was re-introduced as they had discovered a new perception that worship is all about Jesus and not the sounds that comes from the beats. The Heart of worship describes what transpired here.
It was while seeking to know more of God when the sound systems were taken off that the lyrics was laid in the heart of Redman.
“When the music fades, all is stripped away, and I simply come
Longing just to bring something that’s of worth that will bless your heart…
I’m coming back to the heart of worship, and it’s all about You, Jesus”.
Redman had no inkling that the song become an internationally recognized one. The song was written on his bed in his bedroom. So he penned it down as words that were simple, personal, and subjective to his new understanding of the real meaning of worship. He titled it Heart of Worship. On sharing it with his church pastor, Pilavachi, he suggested to him to make some slight adjustments, that any member of the congregation could relate to it well.
Astonished at how God has taken the song globally for his purpose, this song writer smiles at his own lack of foresight. He said, “This was merely a song I never expected could go further than my bedroom. But I love that”.
Heart of Worship soon became a modern standard for the worship musics, sung by choirs, fellow artists, and church families. So you also can find lyrics and chords of this song here.
This song touches the heart of all that listens to it. It is faith lifting, soul inspiring and a mode of re-connecting back to the Creator. With the lyrics of this song, God works in many people’s lives especially with teenagers that struggle with their beliefs.
Heart of Worship is all about Jesus. Making the person singing and listening to know that truly, it’s all about Jesus. Acknowledge him.
Heart of Worship Lyrics and Chords
When the music fades
All is stripped away
And I simply come
Longing just to bring
Something that’s of worth
That will bless your heart
I’ll bring you more than a song
For a song in itself
Is not what you have required
You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear
You’re looking into my heart
I’m coming back to the heart of worship
And it’s all about you
It’s all about you, Jesus
I’m sorry Lord for the things I’ve made it
When it’s all about you
It’s all about you, Jesus
King of endless worth
No one could express
How much you deserve
Though I’m weak and poor
All I have is yours
Every single breath.
