Daily Devotional for July 14

“Then Jesus went around teaching from village to village. Calling the Twelve to him, he began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over impure spirits.” – Mark 6:6-7 (NIV)

Mission in Daily Life

Imagine yourself as one of the twelve disciples, filled with purpose and responsibility as you journey to spread the good news.

But the city where you are called to preach the gospel is your own life. Your family, friends, co-workers, and community make up the mission field where you can share Jesus’ message.

The Power of Companionship

In Mark 6:7-13, we witness a pivotal moment where Jesus commissions His twelve disciples for a specific mission. He sends them out two by two, emphasizing the power of companionship and mutual support in ministry.

This act symbolizes that we are not meant to journey alone in spreading the message of the Kingdom of God. In our daily lives, we, too, can find strength and encouragement in the fellowship of other believers.

Relying on God’s Provision

Jesus instructs the disciples to take nothing for their journey except a staff, highlighting the importance of relying on God’s provision rather than material possessions.

This directive challenges us to evaluate our dependence on worldly security and encourages us to trust God’s faithfulness to provide for our needs. We must learn to rely on God rather than our resources in our daily mission.

Building Relationships

Jesus’ command for the disciples to stay in one place when welcomed into a house underscores the significance of stability and building relationships within the community.

It reminds us of the value of investing in meaningful connections and fostering a sense of belonging wherever we go. Our mission field is enriched through the relationships we build and the love we share.

Handling Rejection with Grace

Conversely, the disciples were instructed to shake the dust off their feet to testify against those who rejected them.

This action symbolizes the need to move on from rejection without carrying the weight of bitterness or resentment.

It teaches us the importance of resilience in the face of adversity and the ability to focus on those who are receptive to the message rather than dwelling on those who oppose it.

Embracing the Mission

Just as the disciples embarked on their mission with faith and obedience, we are encouraged to step out in faith, knowing that God equips and sustains those He sends.
