God created man free. It is, therefore, up to man to decide whether or not to let God into his life. Will you open the door to God?
Devotional for Today, October 13
Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. (Revelation 3:20)
The decision of man in his heart determines everything. Therefore, the inner resolve to repent, to confess to God that you are a sinner, and to change your life with God’s help is very important.
This principle becomes clear from Jesus’ words about sinning against the Holy Spirit: “Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter, but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.” (Mark 3:28-29)
Devotional for every day here: Daily Devotional
Whoever ignores the voice of his conscience, which calls him to obey God’s love and stubbornly tries to remain in a sinful way of life, will not be forgiven. So, likewise, whoever wants to stay in darkness and has no desire to walk in the light (John 1:5) will not be forgiven by God.
Why will such a person not be forgiven? Evil closes the door of the heart.
As a loving father, God humbly knocks at the sinner’s door, but the evil person ignores God and His love. The sinner is able but unwilling to critically examine his situation. He hardens his heart and thus submits even more to controlling evil.
Will you Open the Door to God?
When God created man, He gave him the essential divine attribute—freedom. Therefore, He respects the freedom of His creation.
Man’s position is, therefore, all-determining. God is willing and ready to have mercy on the sinner. But the sinner is not willing and prepared to receive mercy. That is man’s decision.
Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, we thank You for our Lord Jesus. He teaches us how to understand Your profound thought. But more importantly, he invites us to come to you, not be afraid of your love, and open our lives’ doors. Give every person in this world the wisdom and strength to decide freely and to make the choices that bring eternal life. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
