Power of Expectant Faith Daily Devotional for September 8

Welcome to your daily devotional for September 8. Today, we explore a powerful principle from the Bible: The Power of Expectant Faith. Our inspiration comes from the story of Zechariah, a man who received an incredible promise from God but struggled to believe it.

His story teaches us a vital lesson about how our response to God’s promises can shape our lives. Let’s dive into what it truly means not only to pray, but to pray with an unwavering expectation that God will answer.

“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” – Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)

The Power of Expectant Faith

Zechariah and his wife, Elizabeth, were in a tough spot. They were “well advanced in years,” and all hope of having a child had passed. Then, an angel of the Lord appeared to Zechariah with an incredible promise: they would have a son, and he would be a great prophet.

But instead of celebrating this miraculous news, Zechariah’s human reasoning took over. “How can I be sure of this?” he asked, focusing on their old age rather than on the power of the God who was speaking.

Zechariah’s question revealed a lack of faith. God had just sent a heavenly messenger to deliver this good news, and Zechariah doubted. His doubt wasn’t just a fleeting thought; it was a challenge to God’s authority and ability. Because of his unbelief, Zechariah was struck silent until the day the promise was fulfilled. For nine months, he couldn’t speak.

This wasn’t a punishment, but a sign—a humbling reminder that when God speaks, we are to listen and believe.

Prayer Causes Miracles

This story serves as a powerful lesson for us today. When we bring our prayers to God, do we truly believe He will answer, or do we secretly wonder if He heard us? The Bible tells us that “without faith it is impossible to please God” (Hebrews 11:6).

God wants us to approach Him with a heart full of expectant faith, believing that He is who He says He is and that He will do what He has promised.

Be Patient in Prayer

When you pray for a breakthrough, a healing, or guidance, don’t let doubt creep in. Don’t pray one day and then forget about it the next. Instead, actively choose to align your thoughts and words with God’s promises.

Keep a journal of your prayers and God’s answers. This practice can help you remember His faithfulness in the past and strengthen your confidence for the future.
