Seeking a relationship with God – Prayer for November 10. Praise the Lord, everybody! In the body of Christ, you will find a lot of religion, but for some reason, another essential ingredient is in short supply, relationship. We seem to do religion well, but we are short on relationships. First, having religion does not mean you have a relationship with God.
Bible Verse for Today
Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ (Matthew 7:21-23)
The Dictionary states that Relationship means:
- The condition or fact of being related; connection or association.
- Connection by blood or marriage; or kinship.
- A connection exists between people who have dealings with each other and have a close relationship with their siblings.

Religious works and/or ceremonies do not equal relationships. First, we must be covered and washed in the blood of Jesus before God can even recognize us. A real intimate personal relationship with God starts with accepting Christ as your Lord and Savior and then a strong prayer life.
How much time you spend with God in your prayer closet is essential. Jesus prayed for every chance He Got. See Matthew 26:37-39. We must realize that God wants to fellowship with us see Genesis 3:8 and John 16-17, we are his creation.
The first benefit of being in the right relationship with God is that it comes with a gift, which is salvation from our sins, allowing us to have everlasting life in His presence. Without this, we would die in our sins and spend eternity in Hell.
When we are in the right relationship with God, we receive the gift of eternal life, and He gives us the power to live a Christ-like selfless life and a helper to lead us on our journey. Never stop seeking a relationship with God.
Being in the right relationship, as opposed to being on the outs with God, is the most important thing a man can do for his eternal security and for his family. Religion is just a bunch of empty gestures and ceremonies without a genuine relationship with God, but if your religion is born out of a genuine relationship, then you’ve got something worth keeping. Father God, let not our religion be empty but born out of a right relationship with you. Lord, help us to remember that our works do not save us. Our God, we want to hear you say, “well done,” and not, “depart from me; I never knew you.” In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
