Welcome to your daily devotional for September 12, Stand Still and See. Today, we’re revisiting the battle between faith and fear. It’s a choice we face every day, and how we respond determines whether we get to witness God’s incredible power. Let’s learn to stand firm and let faith answer the door.
Daily Devotional for September 12
“Fear not; stand still…and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will work for you today; for the Egyptians you have seen today, you shall never see again.” – Exodus 14:13 (AMPC)
When Fear Knocks
The Israelites were trapped between the Red Sea and Pharaoh’s army. Their situation was impossible. Their natural reaction was to panic and run. But God told them to do the opposite: “Fear not; stand still.” This command seems counterintuitive.
When danger is approaching, why would you stand still? God wanted them to understand that their deliverance wouldn’t come from their own efforts, but from His. They had to choose to stand in faith to witness His miraculous salvation.
Stand Still and See
This same principle applies to our lives. When we are confronted with challenges, our first instinct might be to run away from them. But running from a problem doesn’t make it disappear. The decisions we avoid and the responsibilities we neglect will eventually catch up with us. Avoiding a difficult conversation, a financial crisis, or a painful emotion out of fear will only lead to worse outcomes.
God wants us to face our challenges, not because He wants us to struggle, but because He wants to show His power on our behalf.
Sending Faith to Answer
When fear comes knocking, a simple but profound choice is required: will you send fear or faith to answer the door? This isn’t about ignoring your feelings, but about intentionally choosing to anchor your thoughts and words in God’s promises rather than your anxieties.
Instead of saying, “I can’t handle this,” declare, “God is with me, and He will make a way.” Instead of meditating on the worst-case scenario, recall His faithfulness in the past and speak the truth of His Word.
We can’t experience God’s delivering power if we are constantly running. We are called to stand firm, trusting that He is at work even when we can’t see the solution. Give Him a chance to show His goodness and power in your life.

Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, thank you that I don’t have to face my fears alone. Forgive me for the times I’ve allowed fear to overwhelm me and cause me to run from my problems. Help me to stand firm in my faith, trust in your power, and speak your truth over my circumstances. Thank you for your promise to be my salvation. Amen.
To You
What are you facing today that is causing you to want to run? Instead of fleeing, what is one thing you can do to stand still and trust God with it?
