Staying true to God – Prayer for October 29. Praise the Lord, everybody!
Today, God is looking at the Church of Christ, and He must be concerned with much of what He sees. Unfortunately, people have become comfortable with what the world likes to call “guilty pleasures.”
Bible Verse for Today
“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. (John 4:23-24)
Staying true to God means being truthful to oneself, “keeping it real” with God and yourself, as many like to say. If we examine ourselves, we will find ourselves guilty of something many Christians do. We continually put our salvation and deliverance to the test.

How to do it? For example, many Christians who have recovered from drugs and alcohol still watch films and television programs full of scenes involving alcohol and drugs. Is this necessary for a quality life?
Why do we continue to take fire unto our bosom when we know God delivered us from pyromania? “Can a man scoop fire into his lap without his clothes being burned?” (Proverbs 6:27).
Those who have been freed from pornography will look at any modern TV or film and notice that most of them contain at least one scene that could be considered pornographic. We do not even notice when such things taint our consciousness.
And we have the nerve to call these shows “guilty pleasures” when we watch them? The key word here is “guilty.” When we watch these shows or participate in borderline activities, we are guilty of playing fast and loose with our salvation, deliverance from such things, and our anointing for ministry.
That’s probably why you don’t have powerful ministries like Paul, Isaiah, or Peter. “Guilty pleasures” are the pleasures we are guilty of that weigh down the Holy Spirit.
So, let’s stop playing with fire and take TV junk off our list of must-haves. Also, anything that might grieve the Holy Spirit or hinder our anointing and ability to serve God.
We don’t need to be anti-TV; we need to stop deceiving ourselves about “guilty pleasures” and what we need to be able to serve God.
After all, there’s more at stake than just having a piece of cake when you’re on a diet. God bless you all.
Staying True to God – Prayer for Today
Father God, forgive us for our “guilty pleasures,” the ones we try to justify that are grieving your precious Holy Spirit. Help us, Lord, to stop taking fire to our bosom and to trust you more so that we can stand firm in our deliverance. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
