Staying true to God – Prayer for October 29. Praise the Lord everybody! Today God is looking at the Church of Christ and He must be concerned with a lot of what He sees. People have become comfortable with what the world likes to call “quilty pleasures.”
Bible Verse for Today
“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. (John 4:23-24)
Staying true to God means being truthful to oneself, “keeping it real” with God and yourself as many like to say. If we begin to examine ourselves, we will find we are guilty of something many Christians are also guilty of. We continually put our salvation and deliverance to the test.
How do we do it? Take for example, a lot of us have been delivered from drugs and alcohol but still we find ourselves watching and fixated on movies and T.V. shows like, The Wire, Scar Face, Blow, New Jack City, American Gangster, King Pin, Boardwalk Empire and a host of others.
Why do we continue to take fire unto our bosom when we know we were delivered by God from pyromania?” Can a man scoop fire into his lap without his clothes being burned? (Proverbs 6:27). And those of us who have been delivered from pornography, and you look at any T.V. or movies now a days you can’t help but notice that most have at least one scene that can be considered pornographic. Despite this you find yourself watching shows like Scandal, Empire, Board Walk Empire, even shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Hell on Wheels have simulated sex scenes and those are just the shows that are available on T.V. these days.
And we have the nerve to call these shows “guilty pleasures” when we watch them? The key word here being “guilty”. When we watch these shows or participate in borderline activities we are guilty of playing fast and loose with our salvation, our deliverance from such things and our anointing for ministry.
That’s right ministry, you don’t get to have powerful ministries like Paul or Isaiah or Peter and even more recent ministries such as Billy Graham, David Wilkerson, Benny Hinn, A.A. Allen etc. without a certain amount of Consecration, faith, obedience and holiness. “Guilty pleasures” are just that, pleasures that make us guilty of grieving the Holy Spirit.
So as of right now let us stop playing with fire and take “Empire, Scandal and How to commit murder” off our must watch list and anything else that might grieve the Holy Spirit or interfere with our anointing and our ability to serve God. We don’t have to be anti-Television, we just need stop fooling ourselves about “guilty pleasures” and what it takes to serve God.
After all there’s more at stake than just having a piece of cake when you’re on a diet. God bless you all.
Staying True to God Prayer for Today
Father God, forgive us for our “guilty pleasures” the ones we try and justify that are grieving your precious Holy Spirit. Help us Lord to stop taking fire to our bosom and help us to trust you more so that we can stand firm in our deliverance. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
