God calls you to faith as you are now. Understanding and accepting this truth about yourself is a gift and a task. Accept yourself as you are. God accepts you as you are. This understanding is the source of the four steps for Christian success come from.
Devotional for Today, February 8
“For the one who was a slave when called to faith in the Lord is the Lord’s freed person; similarly, the one who was free when called is Christ’s slave. You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of human beings. Brothers and sisters, each person, as responsible to God, should remain in the situation they were in when God called them.” (full text at 1 Corinthians 7:17-24)
Accept Yourself as You Are
Why is this important for a Christian? Even in the Apostles’ days, preachers said that you must first “become something” and “achieve something in life” before you can communion with Jesus.
But God’s Word teaches us that it is the other way around. So first, come to Jesus as you are. And then, with God’s grace and blessing, you will be able to achieve your goals and “become something.”
This is why the Apostle Paul stresses, “I teach this in all the churches.”
4 Steps for Christian Success
And you, my brother or sister, if you want to achieve high goals, learn this lesson. It is simple but effective.
Here are the four steps that guarantee success for a Christian.
- Where to start? First, you come to the Lord humbly, just as you are.
- What are you? Perhaps unwise, perhaps inexperienced, possibly sinful.
- What do you do? You pray and ask God to transform you, a weak person, and make you successful, effective, and burning with faith.
- What happens, then? The Lord will answer your prayer and give you the grace that will transform you and make you a powerful instrument of God, just as you asked. You will be a living testimony. And your success will be for the glory of God.

Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, I know that you love me just as I am. But your love does not want me to stay that way. On the contrary, it calls me to change, grow, and improve. That is why I humbly turn to you today. I am a weak and sinful person. I am weak.
Therefore, I ask Your grace to give me a new quality, complete my human characteristics, and make me effective and successful. So that I may be inflamed with a living faith, I may be guided by the Holy Spirit and be able to do works that will bring glory to You and prosperity to men. Please make me a living sign of Your love. Make my whole life a testimony. I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
