Today, in our Daily Devotional for June 25, let’s reflect on how tests of faith reveal our true character and help us grow in our relationship with God.
Daily Devotional for June 25
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” – James 1:2-3 (NIV)
Tests of Faith
Trials and tests serve a vital purpose in our spiritual journey. They reveal who we really are and expose our true character.
We might think highly of our virtues, considering ourselves generous, honest, or deeply committed to certain truths. However, the true depth of these qualities is revealed only when we are under pressure.
Revealing Our True Selves
Through trials, we learn whether we genuinely possess the character and commitment we believe we have. Tests affirm our strengths and reveal our weaknesses, helping us truly know ourselves.
Facing our weaknesses can be daunting, but it is essential for spiritual growth. God’s strength is available to us precisely for these moments of vulnerability.
Before trials developed steadfastness and patience in my life, they brought out negative qualities, mindsets, and attitudes I didn’t know I had. God allows us to go through tests and trials to expose the hidden things in our hearts.
Once these things are exposed, we can address them with God’s help.
God’s Purpose in Trials
God does not delight in our suffering. He uses difficult times to help us recognize our need for Him.
Every challenge ultimately works out for our good, making us stronger, building our endurance, and developing godly character. Tests of faith help us to know ourselves better and deal with our flaws honestly before God, leading us toward spiritual maturity.
