The Word of God is a treasure – Prayer for Lent #day 34. Treasure is something that anyone would value. Some people will lay down their lives to protect the treasure. We also would like to get any of these treasures but are we aiming for the right treasure? Are we going for the kind of treasure that will help our lives?
Bible Verse for Today
“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Matthew 6:21)
The Word of God is a treasure. This is the number one treasure that we must have in mind to find and get at all costs. The word of God is a word of promise that will charge us and encourage us on how to live the right life.
In an adventure movie where people are to find treasure on an island, the first thing they do is to find a map that will direct them to where the treasure is. This is the same with the Bible – the Word of God is like a map, a manual guide to everyone who wants to discover his or her treasure.
The Word of God is the map you must find first. Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” The Psalmist knew that the word of God is what will unlock other treasures for him and he called it a “light”. Light is something that makes something to be seen clearly, a map is a light that directs the path so also the word of God.
The word of God helps in times of trouble and when we go wrong, it corrects us. 2 Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”
Did you know that this Word can be hidden away also? In the book of Samuel, the word of the Lord was precious that the people couldn’t find – it was scarce. 1 Samuel 3:1 “The boy Samuel ministered before the Lord under Eli. In those days the word of the LORD was rare; there were not many visions.” The word became what people started looking for, they want to hear from God, they knew how precious the word is.
If there is any treasure you should first seek for with all your heart, it should be the word of the LORD – it then opens every other treasure.
The Word of God is a Treasure Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, your Word is a treasure to me. Your Word is full of power. Speak the Word into my life today and let my life have a turnaround. Let your Word give me strength and patience. Amen.
