It’s easy to feel like we’re not making progress, that our failures outweigh our victories. But what if that feeling of dissatisfaction is actually a sign of growth?

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you… I have called you by your name; you are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned or scorched, nor will the flame kindle upon you.” – Isaiah 43:1-2 (AMPC)
When You Feel Like Giving Up
A person I spoke with felt like a failure. After many years as a Christian, they were discouraged by persistent weaknesses and failures. They felt like they weren’t “getting anywhere” and even questioned if their faith was “worth it.” Their tears and despair are a feeling many of us can relate to.
We look at our shortcomings and compare them to our expectations of who we “should” be, and we feel like we’ve failed.
But the beautiful truth is that feeling this way is often a sign of a growing faith.
If this person wasn’t growing, they wouldn’t even be bothered by their failures. They’d be content with their current state. Their very disappointment is proof that they are determined to move forward.
Victory in the Struggle
Spiritual growth is rarely about a series of grand, flawless victories. It’s often a slow, inch-by-inch process. We succeed, we fail, we get back up again. The victory is found not in never falling, but in refusing to stay down.
The fact that you are still fighting, still trying, still seeking after God is proof of the Holy Spirit’s work in your life. Don’t let the enemy convince you that your slow progress is a sign of defeat. Instead, remember the times you have succeeded, the moments you’ve stood your ground, and the areas where you have made progress.
God doesn’t promise to remove all our hardships, but He does promise to be with us through them. “Fear not,” He says. He calls us by name and claims us as His own. He promises to be with us in the waters and in the fire. We may pass through struggles, but we will not be overwhelmed or burned. His presence is our guarantee, and it’s all we truly need.

Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, thank you for not giving up on me. When I feel discouraged by my failures, please remind me of your unwavering presence and love. Help me to see my desire for holiness as a sign of your work in my life. Give me the strength to push back against the enemy’s lies and to focus on the progress I have made. Thank you for being with me in every struggle. Amen.
