Wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord – Prayer for July 20. Praise the Lord, everybody. Is there a way to guarantee yourself a life of prosperity in this world? There are some, including Christians, that believe there is.
Bible Verse for Today
The pride of your heart has deceived you,
you who live in the clefts of the rocks
and make your home on the heights,
you who say to yourself,
‘Who can bring me down to the ground?’
Though you soar like the eagle
and make your nest among the stars,
from there I will bring you down,”
declares the Lord. (Obadiah 3-4)
The Bible says, “Pride goes before a fall,” for good reason. There are a lot of people, in the body and out, who are going around trusting in anything but God.
Their faith is in created things and not the Creator. They believe in wealth; to them, money is power. They hire bodyguards, put in expensive security systems, live in tall buildings, and say, “I am safe. Who can touch me here?” But the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 10:12 “So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!”
Don’t be one of those people who believe that their degrees and their profession will always be there to protect them from poverty and homelessness. Their disobedience to God may have caused both things to come upon them. They learned this one thing: put your trust in God, who can keep you from falling.

All degrees and experience could not open one door to a job when God decides to keep it closed.
Wisdom Begins with the Fear of the Lord Prayer for Today
Father God, your word says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,” help us remember that our lives are in your hands and not our own every day. Help us lean on you, not the arm of the flesh. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
