A very topical theme is given by today’s Lent daily devotional. Jesus criticizes the Pharisees and scribes because they preach God’s Word but do not practice it themselves. So live the Word of God that you preach.

God’s Word is Available to Everyone
Is it challenging to study the Bible? I think quantum physics is much more complicated to study than the Bible. But on the other hand, the Bible presents life’s mysteries in a simple way everyone can understand. Yes, thus, to know the texts of the Bible in-depth requires a lot of studies, philosophical analysis, and historical insight.
But the information from God’s side, recorded in the Bible, is available to everyone.
Live the word of God that you Preach
But the difficult part is not understanding what God says in the Bible. The hardest part is to live what God says in the Bible.
For example, what is the hardest part of the preacher’s calling? Many people will answer that the most challenging part is “getting on the stage.” Perhaps. But it seems that the most challenging part of being a preacher is living what you preach.

This is what Jesus says to the Pharisees. You preach to other people how to live according to God’s will. But you yourself are living the opposite of the lifestyle you preach.
But they receive even more criticism from Jesus because they are unwilling to admit their wrong way of life and convert.
The Lenten Challenge
Many of you love God’s Word. That is wonderful. You want to teach others how to live rightly according to God’s Word. That is wonderful.
But what is not so fantastic is that you do not want to live according to God’s Word.
Here is a Lenten challenge for you. I think you understand what I am talking about.
Prayer for Today
Thank You, God, for leaving us Your Word. In Your Word, we find all the information we need for salvation. It is an excellent gift to us, Your children.
Today I ask for Your grace to help me understand all the wisdom of life in the Bible. And I ask for Your grace to give me the determination and courage to live according to Your Word. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
