Testimony of Mary Magdalene
St. Mary Magdalene holds a significant place in Christian history. As the first preacher of the Risen Christ, her testimony is crucial to our faith in the resurrection.
She is recognized as the first eyewitness of the Risen Christ, and her role underscores the importance of women in spreading the Gospel.
A Transformed Life
Mary Magdalene’s journey with Jesus began when He freed her from seven demons, restored her dignity, and called her by name.
Until then, society had shunned and labeled her. Jesus’ recognition of her true worth transformed her life, and she became a devoted follower, leading others to Him.
The Power of Recognition
When Jesus called Mary by her name after His resurrection, she immediately recognized Him.
This moment of recognition highlights a profound truth: we find our true dignity, worth, and identity in the Risen Christ. The world may give us many labels, but it is God who defines us and gives us our true identity.
Our Identity in Christ
The world often struggles with issues of identity and dignity, leading to fear, indignation, and violence.
Our true identity is in the Risen Christ
However, our true identity comes from God. As the prophet Isaiah declares, “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine” (Isaiah 43:1). We belong to God and are made for His love.
Unity in Christ
Apostle Paul reminds us in Galatians 3:28 that in Christ, we are all one—there is no distinction between Jew or Greek, slave or free, male or female. Our fractured world needs unity, which can only be found in the Risen Lord.
Mary Magdalene’s testimony of Christ’s resurrection is a testament to this unity and love.
Christ’s Love and Redemption
Mary Magdalene’s story reminds us that Christ wishes to befriend, save, and love each of us. He comes to redeem our fallen world and offer us a new identity in Him.
