Take up your cross daily – Prayer for September 1. Praise the Lord, everybody, and let everything that has breath praise His holy name! As Christians, we are to follow Jesus every day. Sometimes, that is not so easy because of the things we must carry.
Bible Verse for Today
“And he said to them all, if any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” (Luke 9:23)
Day in and day out, Jesus Christ has called us to follow him. To follow in His footsteps, in other words.
Unfortunately, He asked us to take up our cross daily also. One of the things we must nail to that cross is our flesh. Our flesh is what we must deny most when we start denying ourselves. Our flesh is the seat of all our desires and lust. The flesh does not like being denied; it is never satisfied. That is why before we take our cross every morning, we must ensure our flesh is nailed tightly to it.
let us take up our cross daily and follow Christ
We must do this daily because the enemy is constantly tempting our flesh, bringing things our way that he knows will get our attention. He knows what our flesh likes. We also must nail “self” to the cross because Jesus has also asked us to deny ourselves if we want to follow Him. Self and the flesh go hand in hand, each driving the other as we struggle daily to follow Christ obediently.

Take up your Cross Daily Prayer for Today
Father, thank you for sending your son Jesus to die for our sins on the cross at Calvary. Lord, help us follow in His footsteps and take up our crosses daily. Help us nail our flesh to that cross so we can deny ourselves daily. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
