GRIEF AND HOPE Holy Saturday Meaning

Holy Saturday meaning

Holy Saturday meaning. Our Lord Jesus died on the Cross, and His body lies in the tomb. Grief and hope are the two keywords for this Saturday. The experience of death always includes grief, and grief in response to a loss is natural.

Jesus’ disciples embraced grief because their teacher died and is now lying in a cold grave.

But on Holy Saturday, we must also remember the second keyword – Hope, “… so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.” (1 Thessalonians 4:13)

Holy Saturday Meaning

Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.” (John 11: 25-26)

Whoever has to grieve without the light of hope will sink more and more into darkness.

On the other hand, if we can grieve with hope in our hearts, then we have a future. This future has a name: Resurrection and eternal life.

“For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.” (1 Thessalonians 4:14)

Holy Saturday’s hope brings us a clear message: The last word about us is that we do not have death but life! Jesus Christ said the last word about us! Not death!

He, the Son of God and thus God himself, has gone to death precisely because of this, and through this, he has conquered death.

He has risen to a new life; therefore, He is the Resurrection and the life himself. And every person who believes in Jesus, who trusts Him and His Resurrection power, is allowed to participate in this Resurrection and eternal life.

Prayer

Jesus Christ, you are the Resurrection and the life. You entered new life through death. In this way, you opened a new life for us, trusting in you, eternal life in your glory after earthly death.

We thank you for that and for the hope we can have from it. Yes, we can have hope that carries us through our grief.

Please lead us to new life through the work of your Holy Spirit on our souls. Let hope work in our hearts in a healing way. And if we didn’t have to experience any loss ourselves, we still want to go through our lives with the firm hope of eternity. Please help us.

We thank you for this and want to trust in you, Jesus Christ, the Resurrection, and the Life. Amen.
