Today, in our Daily Devotional for May 1, The Architecture of Peace, as we open a new chapter in the calendar, let us lean into a truth that changes the entire pace of our lives: the certainty of our destination.
The Architecture of Peace – Daily Devotional for May 1
“In my Father’s house are many rooms. . . I go to prepare a place for you.” (John 14:2)
The Contrast of Logics
There is a mystery at the heart of our walk with Christ. It begins with the words of Jesus: “I go to prepare a place for you”. This promise sets up a clash between human and divine logic.
Human Logic: Because we don’t know what tomorrow holds, we must grab everything we can today.
Divine Logic: Because our tomorrow is secure in Christ, we are free to live fully today.
When we follow human logic, we live in a state of constant tension. If we subconsciously believe that death is the end, we fight desperately for every bit of recognition, pleasure, or material possession we can find. This is the “last chance” panic. In this mindset, every unfulfilled dream or missed opportunity is seen as a final tragedy.
The Freedom of the Secure Home
Knowing that your true home is with God removes this panic. You are no longer under pressure to “squeeze” every possible drop of satisfaction out of the present moment. Because your greatest wealth is secure, you can afford to miss out on certain worldly achievements or possessions.
This security is the only thing that truly frees us from the traps of greed and envy. We don’t have to envy what others have because we know what is waiting for us. We don’t have to be greedy because we are heirs to an eternal kingdom.
Today is not your last chance; it is simply another day to walk with the One who has already handled your future.

Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, thank You for the peace that comes from knowing my future is in Your hands. Forgive me for the times I have lived in a panic, trying to grab everything for myself. Today, I rest in the truth that You have prepared a place for me. Help me to be generous and calm, knowing that my greatest treasures are safe with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
To You
Identify one thing you have been “desperately fighting for” lately. Ask yourself if you are chasing it because you feel this life is your only chance for happiness. Consciously hand that desire over to God today and remind yourself that your home is already secure.
