The Face of the Invisible Daily Devotional for May 2

Today, in the Daily Devotional for May 2, “The Face of the Invisible,” we are looking at the boldest request ever made to Jesus and the gentle way He responded.

The Face of the Invisible – Daily Devotional for May 2

“Philip said, ‘Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.'” (John 14:8)

God Does Not Hide

The Apostle Philip utters words that resonate with every seeker: “Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us” (John 14:8). This is a sincere human desire to touch what is invisible, to see God with our own eyes.

The beautiful consolation of the Gospel is that God does not hide from our searching. He doesn’t remain a distant, abstract concept or a cold force in the universe. Instead, He comes out to meet this fundamental human need to touch and to know. He does this by revealing the face of the man we know by the name of Jesus.

When Philip asked to see God, Jesus essentially told him that if you have seen Him, you have seen the Father. God took the infinite and made it intimate. He took the “intangible” and gave it hands that heal, eyes that weep, and a voice that calls us by name.

The Sufficiency of Christ

We often go looking for “more” than Jesus. We look for complicated theological systems or spectacular supernatural experiences to satisfy our souls. But Philip’s request reminds us that Jesus is the full and final answer. In the humanity of Christ, the majesty of the Father is fully displayed. You don’t have to climb to heaven to find God; He has already come down to your level.

Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father, thank You for not staying hidden. Thank You for revealing Your heart and Your character through Jesus. When I feel like my faith is not “enough,” help me to look at the life and love of Christ and find my satisfaction there. I am grateful to know You personally. In Jesus’ name, Amen

To You

If you feel distant from God today, don’t look for a “sign” in the clouds. Open the Gospels and look at the face of Jesus. Read about how He treated the broken and the searching. Remind yourself: “That is exactly what the Father is like.”
