It is a joy to start this May 3 day with you. Today, in our Daily Devotional for May 3, The Anchor in the Storm, let us take a moment to address that low humming noise in the background of our minds: anxiety.
The Anchor in the Storm – Daily Devotional for May 3
“Let not your hearts be troubled.” (John 14:1)
Understanding the Source
Anxiety is often a symptom of our deep-seated human fears.
Jesus does not respond to these heavy fears with cheap optimism or simple psychological tricks. He does not tell us to just “think positive” or pretend the danger isn’t real. Instead, He offers a profound cure: faith.
A Decision, Not a Feeling
Faith is not a fleeting emotion or a cold, intellectual acceptance of facts. It is a personal decision to adopt a specific life position. It is the act of anchoring your soul in a person rather than a set of circumstances. This type of faith involves three critical realizations:
- The Goal. We must realize that the Kingdom of Heaven is our true destination. When the end goal is eternal, the temporary bumps in the road lose their power to devastate us.
- The Way. We must realize that Jesus is the only way. We stop trying to find a hundred different exits out of our problems and focus on the one path He has provided.
- The Choice. We must decide to follow Him to the end. This is a commitment of the will that says, “Regardless of the storm, I am staying with the Shepherd.”
Finding True Quiet
When you decide to follow Jesus to the end, the “panic of the present” begins to fade. You no longer have to control every outcome because you trust the One who is in control. Faith becomes the inner hearing that allows you to hear His “Peace, be still” even when the winds are still howling.

Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, thank You for understanding my fears. I admit that I often let my heart be troubled by things I cannot control. Today, I choose faith over anxiety. Help me keep my eyes on the Kingdom, trust in Jesus as the Way, and follow Him faithfully today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
To You
Identify one thing that has been “troubling your heart” this morning. Instead of trying to solve it, practice “divine logic” by telling yourself: “Jesus is the Way, and my future is secure in Him.”
