Daily Devotional for September 29

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” – John 14:26 (ESV)

Managing the Overwhelm

Feeling stressed and overwhelmed is a normal part of life that we must actively learn to manage. While the feeling is often spiritual, we can approach the solution in several practical ways.

It’s wise to take care of ourselves physically by making sure we eat right, exercise, and sleep enough. We can also seek support from people around us and learn to set healthy boundaries by saying no to certain things that deplete our energy. These are all vital steps in honoring the body God gave us.

However, the most powerful and effective resource is divine. When the burdens of life become too heavy, our first and best response should be to ask God for help.

The Wisdom of a Helper

Jesus promised us that the Holy Spirit would come as our Helper (John 14:26). This means we have a supernatural resource ready to assist us in any situation, including those that leave us feeling stressed and overloaded.

When we ask for His help, the Holy Spirit might lead us to practical solutions, such as teaching us to delegate certain tasks or giving us insight into ways we can be more efficient. He might also grant us creative ways to manage our stress by reminding us of Christ’s peace.

Call on the Helper

It is extremely wise to ask the Lord to strengthen our self-control and our peace of mind when we know trials or stressful situations await us. We can be absolutely sure that when we call on the Holy Spirit, the Helper will strengthen us for the task ahead. Our greatest tool against overwhelm isn’t just self-care; it’s the humble reliance on the one who already knows the way through.

I ask you now to strengthen my self-control, renew my peace of mind, and give me the wisdom to manage my burdens today. Help me to delegate, set boundaries, and trust in Your strength above my own. Amen.
