First Sunday of Advent 2023 keep Awake daily Devotional

Advent is a time of searching hearts and waiting for the promise to be fulfilled. We await Christ’s return. On the first Sunday of Advent 2024, the words of the Gospel of Mark are a clear invitation to keep awake, be on guard, and consciously enter each new day.

Devotional for First Sunday of Advent 2024

“Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come. It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to stay awake.” (full text at Mark 13:33-37)

Picture a household in eager anticipation of their master, each member diligent, eyes sparkling with expectation. They are not spurred by fear but by deep love and desire to be found faithful.

This Advent, we are invited into this spiritual household. Amid our routines, our hearts beat with divine rhythm, synchronized with the heart of the One we await.

Principles of Spiritual Vigilance

Attentiveness

Our spirits, attuned to God, stand ready to receive His guidance, wisdom, and peace. We strive to live each day with intentionality, aware of His whispers and nudges. Notice every day of your life and accept it as a gift.

Faithfulness

Like the entrusted servants, we are called to be faithful stewards of our time, gifts, and responsibilities, reflecting His love and mercy in our daily interactions. You will be blessed for your faithfulness.

Expectancy

Advent nurtures a holy expectancy within us, a joyous hope that transcends our current circumstances. It’s a forward-looking faith anchored in the promise of His return.
