Dear friends, it is a blessing to start this new month together. As we step into March 1, we reflect on a truth that defies human logic: The Gift of Mercy. Even when we fail to keep our promises to Him, He remains faithful.
The Gift of Mercy – Daily Devotional for March 1
“The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” — Lamentations 3:22-23 (NASB)
Beyond Human Logic
Based on human logic alone, we do not deserve mercy. We have all made promises to God that we failed to keep, sometimes repeatedly. If we were dealing with another person, their patience would likely have run out long ago.
Fortunately, God is not a human. He does not count our failures the way the world does. Instead, He offers mercy freely. This is a gift that deserves our deepest gratitude every single day.
Gift of Mercy
Many people grew up in environments defined by strict rules. In those settings, breaking a rule meant immediate trouble.
While God certainly wants us to follow His commandments, His heart is not that of a rigid taskmaster. He understands our nature. He knows that we are still learning how to live, even if we are already halfway through our lives.
The learning process takes time, and God is patient with our progress. He values mercy more than legalism. When you fall short, He is not looking for a reason to punish you: He is looking for an opportunity to extend grace to anyone who is willing to receive it.
Learning to Give
There is a natural cycle to grace. When we finally learn how to truly receive God’s mercy for ourselves, we become capable of giving it to others.

Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your mercy that is new every morning. I am so grateful that Your patience is not limited like human patience. Help me to stop living under the heavy weight of rules and to start living in the freedom of Your grace. Teach me to be as merciful to the people around me as You have been to me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
