Giving to others – Prayer for December 14. God has given compassion to each one of us. But it’s up to us to decide if we open our heart to it or close it up. We can open our hearts by seriously considering the needs of this world and the people living in it. We need to focus our thoughts on people who live not as well as we do and open our hearts to those who suffer and need our help.
Bible Verse for Today
“If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” (1 John 3: 17-18)
This biblical passage makes it very clear that we can not wait for another person to do something when we see someone in need. Nor can we say that the need is too great for me to do anything about it because that’s not true. It doesn’t matter if you have a lot to give or a little; your intention to help is the most important. God gives us some things we could give to others who need them more than we.
Devotional for every day here: Daily Devotional
When you see someone in need, realize that you are the one God has asked to help with the situation.
Even if we can not completely solve a problem, we can at least do a little. And what we can do is give other people hope. So let compassion for the great misery of the people of this world be in your heart.
Giving to Others Prayer for Today
God, we do not want to live selfishly and ignore the needs of others. Lord, teach us to share without expecting something in return. We open our hearts to your compassion to help others who need our help the most. We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
