Good Friday what does the crucifixion of Jesus mean

What does the Crucifixion of Jesus mean? – Bible verse and prayer for Good Friday, March 29, 2024. Today, we commemorate the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ and call it Good Friday because Christ showed us his unfailing love and gave up his life for our sins by free will. Jesus’ death on the Cross saved us from eternal death.

What Does the Crucifixion of Jesus Mean

“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.” (1 Peter 3:18)

Jesus gave Himself up for us and was scourged and killed. Then, on the cross, He said: “It is finished.”

This statement means that the power of sin has ended. Thanks to Jesus, everyone has the opportunity to be set free. This is because He loved us more than anyone else can love us.

The death of our Lord is not what just happened suddenly; the prophets have spoken it in the Old Testament of how the Lord would be beaten for our sake and brutalized only for us to be saved. Isaiah 53:3-5 says, “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds, we are healed.”

Because by Your Holy Cross, You have Redeemed the World

What does the Crucifixion of Jesus mean?

  1. Atonement for Sin. Jesus’ crucifixion is seen as the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of humanity, offering redemption and reconciling people with God.
  2. Manifestation of Divine Love. The act is a profound demonstration of God’s love, showing His willingness to endure suffering for the sake of humanity’s salvation.
  3. Victory over Death. Jesus’ death and subsequent resurrection are viewed as triumphs over sin and death, offering believers the promise of eternal life.
  4. Model of Forgiveness. Jesus’ forgiveness of those who crucified Him serves as a powerful example of unconditional forgiveness and love.
  5. Call to Discipleship. The crucifixion challenges followers to take up their own crosses, symbolizing the call to self-denial and complete dedication to God’s will.

We should be happy that Jesus Christ died on the Cross for our sins because he brings us closer to God, and now we can enter into the Kingdom of God by His Grace. When Jesus was telling his disciples about his death, Peter tried stopping Jesus then Jesus rebuked him (Mark 8:33).

So what does the Crucifixion of Jesus mean? It means that Jesus was so keen on setting the human race free from the bondage of sin, and nothing could stop him. So it is “good” for us to appreciate his death by accepting that it is for our Salvation.

Good Friday

Good Friday is also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, or Easter Friday. The date of Easter changes every year as Easter Sunday must always fall on the next full moon after Spring Equinox. Good Friday marks the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary.

Death on the Cross – Prayer for Today

Jesus, we were indebted to sin, which Adam brought upon us, leaving us with no choice but to face the consequence until you came and died for our sins and set us free from the wages of sin and death. For this reason, I thank you, and I thank you for your unfailing love. Amen.
