Welcome to your daily devotional for February 19. Today, we’re addressing a habit most of us know all too well: the exhausting cycle of worry. By choosing a Kingdom First mindset, we can finally step out of the “rocking chair” of anxiety and into the rest God has prepared for us.
Kingdom First – Daily Devotional for February 19
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” – Matthew 6:33 (NIV)
The Rocking Chair of Worry
There is a famous saying that worry is like sitting in a rocking chair: it gives you something to do, but it never gets you anywhere.
It keeps our minds in constant motion, rocking back and forth between “what if” and “how will I,” but it doesn’t move us an inch closer to a solution. In fact, if we stay in that chair too long, it simply wears us out, leaving us too exhausted to enjoy the life we actually have.
Trusting God is the act of stepping out of that chair. It allows us to enter His rest, a place of peace where we can actually enjoy our lives while we are waiting for Him to solve our problems.
We know He cares for us and will meet our needs, but the “entry fee” to this rest is our willingness to stop the obsessive thinking and worrying.
Not Just Wishful Thinking
Living without worry can feel like a tall order. We often dismiss the idea of a “worry-free life” as empty hope or religious wishful thinking. However, Jesus didn’t offer a suggestion; He offered a spiritual principle. When we put the Kingdom First, everything else begins to fall into its proper place.
The Kingdom First principle means shifting our focus from the problem to the Provider. It’s not about ignoring your responsibilities, but about recognizing that you have a Father who is infinitely more capable than your best-laid plans.
There is no time like the present to begin learning this new way to live. When God’s priorities become our priorities, His peace becomes our reality.

Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, I am tired of the “rocking chair” of worry. I realize today that my anxiety hasn’t moved me forward; it has only worn me out. I choose to put Your Kingdom First today. I hand over the problems I’ve been trying to solve on my own and ask You to lead me into Your rest. Thank You for caring for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
To You
What is the one thing you’ve been “rocking” back and forth on lately?
